Demeter Olive Oil

In the year 1924, Austrian philosopher and anthroposophist Rudolf Steiner laid the foundation for the biodynamical approach to farming in his lectures on agriculture. Nowadays, the Demeter label is present in over 50 countries around the globe. Demeter farmers and producers by far exceed the requirements of the EU-Eco-regulation. Not only the quality of the resulting foodstuffs, but also nature benefits from this practice.

BIO PLANÈTE’s Demeter Olive oil derives from the Alentejo region of Southern Portugal, where the olive groves of MONTE NOVO DA FONTE CORCHO lie between the Spanish border and the Guadiana river. Here, an extended family of Swiss ancestry cultivates biodynamic olives. The extracted oils are certified with the Demeter label since 2009. As early as 2000, the family arrived in Alentejo, with the determination to produce healthy and organic food. Since then, the cultivated area has been expanded bit by bit, as of today it encompasses more than 28,000 olive trees, which range in age from four to over 500 years. Biodynamic compost from manure along with olive pomace is used for a gentle manuring and maintenance of the olive grove’s soil fertility. Additionally, a small herd of mother cows lives here, as practiced on most farms operating in accordance with Demeter standards.
